A Visit From Michelle Obama

2010s Artists Exhibitions Visitors Women

Kerry James Marshall describes guiding Michelle Obama through his exhibition, Kerry James Marshall: Mastry.

You know, the First Lady of the United States is an extraordinary individual. But to have the chance to walk through it like you’re walking through it with your neighbor—to hear the kinds of questions that she and some of her staff had to ask be the kinds of questions that almost anybody would need to ask when they’re encountering something that’s unfamiliar, that they hadn’t seen before, that they don’t know a lot about. I think what made the experience the most special was that it ended up being quite ordinary.
