Give Me $100

Chicago Community Visitors

Dorie Sternberg recruits members for the new museum.

It’s changed a lot. In the beginning, nobody thought anything of it. There was this little nucleus. And when I went to get memberships they all looked at me like I was crazy. And I said, “Well, look. This is a civic duty. You should do it because—I know you’re not going to like all the art, maybe you’re not going to like any of the art, because it’s really different, but this is important for the city of Chicago. So give me $100.” And that’s how I got all these members.
