It’s a Fossil

Artists Collection Curatorial

Cracks are discovered in Felix, the museum's gigantic new sculpture.

[Maurizio] Cattelan was called when that piece was unpacked. And what happened is Francesco [Bonami] saw that there were some crack-looking things in it. And so he called [Cattelan] up and I don't know, I have a feeling at the beginning he knew the answer to this, but he called and he said, "You know there are cracks and there are these imperfections." And Maurizio Cattelan's answer was, "It's a skeleton. It's a fossil."
