Building an Identity
The MCA's iconic Josef Paul Kleihues building was a starting point for designers Linda van Deursen and Armand Mevis, who were commissioned in 2014 to develop a new identity for the museum.
Linda van Deursen: What we found out after talking to the different members of the community was that most people identified the museum with the building. And they were always referring to the building, rather than the programming for instance. And so we quite soon found out that the building was a very important thing to consider in whether we should relate our identity in relationship to the building, or whether we should think of something that would sort of balance some of it out. [It] was at least quite clear from the beginning that the building was an important element in our consideration of how to start out.
