Befriending Jan van der Marck

1960s Christo Community Directors Exhibitions Founders Jan van der Marck

Scott Hodes established a friendship with Jan van der Marck that lasted beyond Van der Marck's tenure at the MCA.

I also, thanks to Christo, had a social relationship with Jan because in the later years, before he passed away, he would always visit the Christo projects that were taking place in the United States, and sometimes in Europe.

So I got to see Jan van der Marck later after this—the wrapping took place here. And we became friends. And he was very smart. He was ahead of his time. And I think the museum made a wise choice in selecting Jan to be its first director. I really do. Because he had vision of what this museum should be.
