The Building as Canvas

2010s Building Chicago Avenue Performance

Judy Freeman describes the experience of seeing the exterior of the MCA building transformed during a performance.

One of my other "wow" moments was when the museum coordinated with Redmoon Theater and did The Astronaut's Dream, I think is what it was called. But there was a performance piece that took place in the front windows of the museum. And I just think—and I'm trying to think—that was probably about maybe five years ago, or maybe even a little more. But anyway, I mean, just the warm fuzzies that it created, as far as people just sitting on the front steps and the lawn and whatever, just to see this piece that was using the building—using the building as a canvas, which I—things like that I think are just fabulous. And of course, the space that we're in, the stage, the performances that happen here, I think are great. And obviously, that wasn't available in the old building.
